KENT KIM

Piano

Kent is a composer, musical director, and pianist based in New York City. Originally from South Korea, she studied classical piano performance at Hansei University and completed her Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Composition at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU in 2017.

Her early career was marked by performances at young artist concerts in college, showcasing her emerging talent. She also had the privilege of studying under the renowned pianist Igaki Hideyuki.

As a composer, Kent wrote the original operetta Petronilla in collaboration with book and lyricist Zachry Childers, which has been performed at both the NYU Steinhardt Opera Program and the Oklahoma University Opera Program. She contributed as both a music director and orchestrator to the Frankenstein musical, a long-running Off-Broadway show that was developed into a film in 2023. The original soundtrack of Frankenstein is available on major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music.

Kent has extensive experience as a musical director, having served in this role for Off-Broadway musicals for over five years. Her work includes directing and shaping performances for productions at St. Luke’s Theatre, such as Frankenstein, It Came From Beyond, Geek, and Wicked City Blues. Her expertise in musical direction spans various aspects of production, from overseeing rehearsals to collaborating with cast and crew to ensure a cohesive and compelling show.

In addition to her performance and composition work, Kent is a dedicated educator and a certified Piano Adventures Master Teacher with over 20 years of experience. Her teaching approach integrates a deep understanding of classical and contemporary music with a passion for nurturing her students' musical growth. She is committed to inspiring and developing the next generation of pianists through personalized instruction and innovative teaching methods.
