CHUNG YOO

Clarinet

Clarinetist Chung Yoo has appeared extensively as a soloist throughout US and South Korea. Winner of Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition, Lillian Fuchs Memorial Chamber Music Competition and Artur Balsam Competition for Duos, Mr. Yoo also won the major competitions in South Korea; Joongang Music Competition, Music Association Competition, Seoul National University Winds Competition, and Korean Clarinet Association Competition.

As a chamber musician, Mr. Yoo has participated Bowdoin International Festival in 2015 and Sarasota Music Festival in 2014 with a fellowship. Since elementary school years, Mr. Yoo continues to actively appear as an orchestra player. He was a former principal clarinetist of Seoul Metropolitan Youth Orchestra and Ditto Orchestra in South Korea.

As a composer, Mr. Yoo has supervised the compilation of “Clarinet best collection” and “Lovely clarinet melody,” which it was published by Samho Music Co. and recorded as movie soundtracks. Composition is a special interest in his music career, which Mr. Yoo often appears in concerts with three of his compositions.

Under Charles Neidich’s guidance, Mr. Yoo received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Manhattan School of Music, where he also received Professional Studies and Master’s degree. He received Bachelor’s degree at Seoul National University and attended Seoul Arts High School and Yewon School. In Korea, his major teahers were Dong-Jin Kim and Chang-Soo Lee.
