YURONG BAO

Clarinet

Born in Urumchi, Xinjiang in 1997, Bao grew up in Beijing. At the age of six, she began her musical journey with the piano. By the time she was ten, Bao had embarked on her clarinet studies under the guidance of Lei Fan. From 2010 to 2014, she honed her skills at the Central Conservatory of Music Middle School. In 2014, her talent shone as she won the final list of the 8th International Competition of Young Musicians in Vladivostok.

The same year marked a pivotal step in her career when she came to the United States to pursue her artistic passions at the Cleveland Institute of Music. There, Bao flourished in the prestigious Young Artist Program under the mentorship of Franklin Cohen. During the 2015-2016 season, she also proudly held a place in the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, under the baton of musical director Brett Mitchell.

In a remarkable achievement, Bao was nominated by the faculty on February 18, 2016, to represent the Young Artists Program and the winds area for a showcase of CIM at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. After completing her studies at Montessori High School, she was awarded a generous scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, under the guidance of Franklin Cohen.

As an accomplished and passionate musician, Bao has had the privilege of participating in masterclasses led by distinguished clarinetists such as Florent Héau, Richard Stoltzman, Jonathan Cohler, Reiner Wehle, and Ricardo Morales. Following the successful attainment of her bachelor's degree, she was admitted to the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington for a master's program in clarinet, becoming a student of Eli Eban.

Throughout her master's studies in clarinet, Bao discovered a deep-rooted interest in music education. This fervor led her to seek admission to the Columbia University, where she was accepted into a second master's degree program in Music Education.

Bao's journey is a testament to her unwavering dedication, remarkable accomplishments, and her unquenchable thirst for musical excellence and education
